Julie Anderson
Operations Support Manager
Published September 2002
What is your job exactly?
Operations Support includes the Environment Department, FSIH
(fire/safety/industrial health), Aviation Services,
Facilities Management at Bragaw, the Doyon Industrial
Facility and the Valdez Terminal Office, and the Crisis
Management Team here in Anchorage. Operations Support
provides a company-wide focus to ensure that each of these
areas delivers efficient support to operations.
What was your role in the realignment?
I was co-lead with Kathie May on the transition team. After
the testing teams finalized the design of the realigned
organization, the transition team worked with consultants
and other members of the organization to develop the
processes to make the change. This included a communication
plan, staffing processes and management of change
procedures. The process took about four months; we
transitioned out of the team and into our new jobs the end
of June.
How long have you been at Alyeska?
A little over three years, this time. I worked at Alyeska
during construction in the mid ‘70s and I’ve always had an
interest in coming back. A lot of Alaskans probably don’t
realize that Alyeska has a good reputation for
professionalism. That and the fact that it’s strategically
located were very appealing to me. The pipeline provides a
significant benefit to both Alaska and the rest of the
country and I am looking forward to being here as we move
into the 21st century.
What do you like most about being at Alyeska?
I enjoy the people and the focus on operating in a safe,
environmentally sound manner. How Alyeska operates is
important to me, but not just because of my job. Alyeska is
an integral part of the state. As an Alaskan of Athabascan
heritage, the development of the oil industry has provided a
benefit to both my family and my corporation (Doyon Ltd).
Several of my family members were involved in construction
and still have a link to the oil industry. The pipeline has
had such a significant impact to the state; that it operates
well really matters.
