Employee Profile
Tom Betz
Learning and Development Coordinator
From IT to HR, Tom Betz has held many different positions in
different corridor towns along the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.
Originally from Fairbanks, today he works as the Learning and
Development Coordinator out of the Anchorage office.
How long have you been employed at Alyeska? What other positions
have you held?
I’ve been with TAPS since the mid-90s – I started in IT as a
desktop technician, traveling up and down the pipeline fixing
computers - moved to Valdez as a IT generalist, coordinating IT
services– moved to Anchorage as a member of the System Renewal
project, helping redesign our management system – moved into an
IT business/project manager role for an IT system - and finally
ended up in my current job as a learning and development
coordinator.
What do you like the most about being the learning and development
coordinator?
I’d have to say the people – working in HR, and specifically L&D
(learning & development) has been fun, mainly because of the
great people that I get the opportunity to work with!
What has been your favorite position with Alyeska?
I really enjoyed working as a Management System Coordinator for
System Renewal – that was a high-performing team where we were
able to have a great time and achieve great results … that said,
I’d have to say, my current position is my favorite!
Out of all the projects you have worked on at Alyeska, what has
been your favorite so far and why?
Most recently, I’ve really enjoyed designing Alyeska’s new hire
orientation program. It has been very rewarding to work with
people from all over the company to come up with ideas and then
put those ideas into action.
