Governor Sarah Palin appoints two Alyeska employees to state boards

Governor Sarah Palin has appointed Alyeska employees Gay Dunham and Bonnie Jo Savland to the Alaska Seismic Hazards Safety Commission and the Alaska Workforce Investment Board, respectively.

Dunham currently lives in Valdez and is Alyeska’s Incident Management Team Readiness Coordinator. In his appointment to the commission, Dunham will help advise the governor, Legislature and private businesses in Alaska on policies for seismic hazard mitigation and disaster preparedness, and on when to issue seismic hazard warnings. Dunham is retiring from Alyeska in early January and plans to continue living in Valdez.

Savland will serve on the board that helps develop and manage a comprehensive state resource investment system, and promotes an efficient integrated system of employment education and training programs to help provide Alaskans the skills necessary to thrive in the state’s evolving economy.

“I am honored to put my years of statewide workforce experience to work in this appointment to the Alaska Workforce Investment Board,” Savland said. “I believe my background with state and federal governments, Alaska Native organizations, and knowledge of industry will position me to assist in improving the workforce development field.”

Savland has worked at Alyeska since 2002. Her current accountabilities as the Recruiting and Alaska Native Program Manager help ensure Alyeska attracts the right talent and meets its minority and diversity employment requirements. Savland earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She was appointed a seat reserved for a representative of Alaska Natives living in urban areas.
