Electrification
& Automation work begins at PS 1
With
Electrification & Automation at Pump Station 4 operational,
focus turns to completing Pump Station 1, where Alyeska’s Major
Maintenance Department will manage the remaining work over the
next couple of years.
“I want to thank the Electrification & Automation team for their
hard work over the last couple of years,” said Mike Joynor,
Senior Vice President, Oil Movements, Engineering and Pipeline.
“We’re at a point with the project that we can effectively
manage the remaining electrification and automation work within
the base Alyeska organization.”
Alyeska will use a Management of Change Process (MOC) to
document and transition the remaining work at Pump Stations 9,
3, 4 and 5. Mark Moustakis, Major Maintenance Program Director, will
lead Electrification & Automation efforts.
Work to convert the identified E&A stations continued for three
years until 2006, when Alyeska began converting the E&A pump
stations one at a time. Pump Station 9 near Delta Junction was
completed first, followed by Pump Stations 3 and 4. Pump Station
1 is projected to be completed by mid-2012. Pump Station 5 will
be evaluated to determine what, if any work, will be done based
on associated project economics. Crews have been installing
electrically-driven crude oil pumps with increased automation
and upgraded control systems at the E&A stations. The new
equipment lets Alyeska increase operational efficiency, handle
variable throughput, improve remote operations, and monitor for
potential problems.
Mike Joynor remains as executive sponsor for electrification
work. John Plenger is transitioning overall management of
remaining Electrification project work to Mark Moustakis. John
Baldridge continues as the client for Electrification.
