Electrification & Automation update
In 2001, the Electrification & Automation (E&A) Program was
initiated to replace the existing control systems and equipment
at Pump Stations 1, 3, 4 and 9 with modern technology designed
to adjust to future throughput levels. As of June 2009, this
program is nearly three quarters complete. Pump Station 9, Pump
Station 3, and Pump Station 4 are all successfully operating
with the new electronically-controlled pumps, drivers and
generators through remote automation at the Operations Control
Center in Anchorage.
For the remainder of 2009, the focus will be on completing
remaining E&A work at Pump Stations 3 and 4. The plan for Pump
Station 1 is to continue with the planning and engineering work
this year with onsite installation of the E&A equipment
occurring in 2010 and 2011.
This final E&A project and other pump station optimization work
is being transitioned to the Major Maintenance Department which
will execute the remaining and future work at Pump Stations 1, 3
and 4.
