Scott Iverslie
Measurement Specialist
Describe
some of the work you do for Alyeska.
My primary
responsibility is to support Alyeska’s measurement technicians
at the custody transfer metering stations located at PS01, North
Pole Metering, Petro Star Valdez and the VMT. Having an
engineering background I help troubleshoot problems, create
minor modification engineering packages, calibrate measurement
devices and provide project support for measurement related
activities.
Tell us about
the role of a measurement specialist?
Since accurate
crude oil measurement is a crucial part of Alyeska’s business,
no oil can flow or change custody if it is not being measured.
The role of the measurement specialist is to ensure Alyeska’s
metering systems are operated and maintained to exceed Alyeska
and American Petroleum Institute (API) Manual of Petroleum
Measurement Standards.
What do you
enjoy doing outside of work?
I love working with my hands building or fixing anything.
Although I enjoy spending time hunting or fishing I get more
satisfaction out of construction work like remodeling and
building a cabin. My son is 10 years old and only young once; I
spend as much personal time with him so we can share life
experiences together.
What is your
favorite part of the pipeline and why?
I have always said that there is no more beautiful place on
earth than Valdez on a nice day. When I worked on the terminal
in the ERB building I would take time every day just to look
over the bay at the mountains above Valdez from the parking
lot. Since I started my career with Alyeska in Valdez, visiting
the VMT is like going home.
