ANCHORAGE, AK –
Kevin M. Hostler, President and
CEO of Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, will be inducted into
the State of Alabama’s Engineering Hall of Fame this weekend at
a Feb. 21 ceremony in Auburn, Alabama. Hostler is one of seven
new inductees to join the prestigious Hall of Fame.
The
organization cited Hostler's 30-year career in the oil industry. A
statement from the Hall of Fame said that Hostler “has not only
helped protect the environment and develop one of Alaska's most
valuable resources, but he has also taught future generations to
follow his example by ethically handling the nation's crude oil
supply and the environment.”
Hostler became president of Alyeska
in fall 2005 and is the ninth executive to lead the company since
its establishment in 1970. On behalf of five owner companies,
Alyeska operates and maintains the Trans Alaska Pipeline System,
which transports crude oil some 800 miles from the North Slope of
Alaska to the Valdez Marine Terminal, supplying about 16 percent of
the nation's crude oil supply.
Before coming
to Alyeska, Hostler served as Senior Vice President for BP's global
human resources organization and, before that, was the Business Unit
Leader and Associate President of BP’s subsidiary in Colombia.
Hostler's diverse 30-year career in the oil and gas industry
includes leadership assignments in the United States, England,
Scotland, and Columbia and extensive experience in the production
and operations side of the business. Hostler and his wife, Becky,
live in Anchorage, and have two adult children.
Officials with
the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame credited Hostler's
stewardship of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System, his commitment to
mentoring future oil industry professionals, and his commitment to
education and scholarships, including his leadership in helping to
endow a chairperson for the Alaska Native Science and Engineering
Program at the University of Alaska.
The Engineering
Hall of Fame was founded in 1987 by proclamation of the Alabama
governor. The organization honors, preserves, and perpetuates the
outstanding accomplishments and contributions of individuals,
projects, and corporations/institutions that have brought and
continue to bring significant recognition to the State of Alabama.
Hostler was
previously honored as a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by the
University of Alabama in April 2008. Hostler graduated from that
university in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in chemical
engineering.
